R&P Post 4: Audience Questionnaire

In order to get a real and strong insight into the interests of our target audience, we created a questionnaire which consisted of these questions:

1. What is your gender?
2. What do you commonly associate with British films?
3. Where do you usually watch films?
4. What would you expect to see in the opening sequence of a boxing film?
5. If the main character is to be a boxer, what do you expect them to look like?
6. What type of characters would you expect to see and how would you expect them to act?
7. What boxing films have you seen?
8. How do you think females are represented in the boxing industry?

In our group, Lesley was the one who created the questionnaire but all members of our group played a role in distributing it to people, within our target audience, to complete. The people we handed out our questionnaire to were teenagers aged from primarily 15 years old to 18 years old, as although our film is 15-rated, meaning that is accessible to teenagers and above, the storyline of our film is principally about the lives of two teenagers, allowing teenage members of our audience to connect with our film on a more personal level. So we decided to aim our questionnaire mainly at people aged in this age group. From the results we received from the questionnaire we created different graphs and charts to present our results in a more organised fashion, for example:


Above you can see a pie chart that we created for our second question- 'What do you commonly associate with British films?'. The answers that we received for this particular question mainly came down to people thinking of British films as a gritty drama with a focus on harsh reality, films including aspects of British culture, including famous tourist attractions of London and tea, and lastly spy or crime films such as James Bond. From the above pie chart you can see that the majority of people associate British films with British culture. What this tells us is that we should include some aspects of British life in our film in order to get our audience to acknowledge that it is British film. 


Here you are able to see a bar chart that we created for our third question which asked people where they usually watch films. The results from this question were quite similar but they were also mixed as well, with some people watching films in different places through different mediums. From our results we found that the majority of people within our target audience arch films at home, either through a computer, television or another streaming device, such as a tablet or iPad. What this tells us is that it would be a sensible and practical decision to distribute our film online because this would enable more people to see our film as our target audience are frequent users of the internet, meaning that they would be able to watch our film more than once and also 'spread the word' about it. 


Just above you can see the results we received from our last question.  For this question, many people thought that women are significantly underrepresented in the boxing industry and are portrayed as weak characters who depend upon their male counterparts. However, we did also receive some  answers that said the opposite of this which said that they fought females are represented as tough and dominating characters. Overall, on the other hand, as the majority of our results have told us that our target audience think that women are not represented properly within the boxing industry, we are going to have a female boxer as our main lead, to demonstrate to our audience that women can also be professional and talented boxers, just like men. 

What we have learnt from these results is hoe to cater for and attract more members of our target audience to watch our film. For example, many people think that female boxers are extremely underrepresented in the boxing industry, meaning that we will have our main lead playing a female boxer in order to show women that they can be talented and professional boxers in the same way that men can be. Also, by doing this we aim to attract a wider female audience to our film, making our audience grow.
